Birth anniversary of Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad held on Monday

Dhaka: A solo lecture marking the 145th Birth anniversary of the renowned litterateur Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad was held in the Poet Shamsur Rahman seminar room of the Bangla Academy on Monday.
The Academy organized the solo speech titled ‘Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad: Borenno Bangalee Monisha’ on his birthday.
Professor Mahbubul Haque presented the solo speech on his life and works while President of the academy Emeritus Professor Anisuzzaman presided over the lecture session.
Abdul Karim was born in Suchakradandi village of Patiya Upazila in Chittagong District in 1871.
He was awarded ‘Independence Day Award’ in 1995 for his contribution. Karim was also a collector of ancient Bengali literature who collected more than 2,000 Puthis to prevent them from being lost.
More than 1,000 of them were written by Bengali Muslims. No other person or organisation had collected such a big number of Puthis before.
Literary Association of Nadia honored him with the title of Sahitya Sagar and Chattal Dharmamandali Sabha gave him the title of Sahitya Visharad.
Abdul Karim Shahitya Basharad breathed his last in 1953.
