March 18, 2017 marks the 38th death anniversary of one of the most renowned litterateurs and journalists of this subcontinent, Abul Mansur Ahmad.

A pioneer of modern and progressive journalism, Abul Mansur Ahmad was the editor of the Daily Ittehad, a Kolkata-based daily from 1946 to 1948.

Also a great satirist, successful politician and lawyer, he played a key role in the formation of Awami Muslim League as he served it as its vice-president from 1953 to 1958, reports UNB.

Known for his strong stand on matters relating to the interests of then East Bengal, Abul Mansur Ahmad was the provincial education minister in the United Front cabinet under AK Fazlul Huq and central commerce and industries minister in the Awami League government of Prime Minister Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy.

His publications include great satires like Aina, Asmani Purdah, Gulliverer Safar Nama and Food Conference. His works also include great writings on social and political history of Bengal. He has two autobiographical writings — Atma Katha (About myself) and Amar Dekha Rajnitir Panchash Bachar (50 years of politics as I have seen it).

Born in 1898 at Dhanikhola village of Trishal, Mymensingh, Abul Mansur Ahmad passed away in 1979.
