Narsingdi: A court in Narsingdi on Tuesday sentenced a man to death and seven others to life imprisonment for killing a madrasah student in 2011.

The condemned convict is Farid Miah while the lifers are Mostafa Hossain, Jakir Hossain Babul, Siam Miah, Touhid Miah, Sanaullah, Dulal Miah and Joynal Miah.

The court also fined the lifers Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer two years more in rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Mahfuz Hossain, 16, a Class-X student of Borochapa Karamali Senior Fazil Madrasah and son of Abdus Sattar of Kayet village in Monohardi upazila, was stabbed to death by the convicts on 10 November 2011 over a previous enmity.

Abdus Sattar filed a case with Monohardi Police Station in this regard.

After examining the records and witnesses, District and Session’s Judge Begum Fatema Najib handed down the verdict.
