Sylhet: Police arrested a couple from Medina Market area of Sylhet city on Monday on charge of torturing their domestic help.

The arrestees are Foyez Ahmed and his wife Tofa Begum of Dargah Mahalla in the city.

Tipped off that a nine-year-old housemaid was being tortured at a house in Dargah Mahalla area, a team of police rushed there on Sunday night and rescued the girl.

They, however, could not arrest the couple as they managed to flee sensing the presence of the law enforcers. There were marks of injury on the body of the domestic help who was later admitted to a local hospital.

On Monday morning, police raided a house in the Medina Market area after a tip off and arrested the couple.

Later, they were produced before a local court which sent them to jail.
