Lakshmipur:  A listed robber was killed and five policemen were injured in a reported gunfight between police and a robber gang at Paschim Latifpur in Lakshmipur  Sadar upazila on early Wednesday.

The deceased is Abu Jaher alias Dama Kalu, resident of Panchpara village and a member of robber gang, known as Jisan Bahani.

Police said a gang of robbers were taking preparation to carry out robbery at Paschim Latifpur.

A team of police conducted a drive in the area.

However, sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire towards them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, leaving Abu Jaher dead on the spot and five policemen injured.

The injured policemen—Abu Bakar Siddique, Yunus Miah, Sattaranjan Chakma, Abdul Quader and Hasan Sarker—were taken to a local hospital.

Dama Kalu was accused in several cases, including murder cases, filed with Chandraganj police and Lakshmipur Sadar police.
