Police said a Sylhet-bound ‘Hanif Paribahan’ bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a stationary truck on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway in the area at about 9:30pm, leaving three people–Tipu, Tariqul and Arif–dead on the spot and 34 others injured.

Of the injured, four people–Morsheda, Abu Saleh, Mehidi and Sahabuddin–died on the way to hospital.

The rest injured were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital and different local clinics.

Traffic on the busy road remained halted for two hours following the road accident.

Meanwhile, angered by the incident, locals set fire to a bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ at Kadamtoli in Dakkhin Surma upazila at about 2:00am on Saturday.

Later, a firefighting unit rushed in and doused the flame.
