Habiganj road crash death toll reaches 7

Sylhet: The death toll from Friday’s road accident at Jalalpur under Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj rose to seven, with the death of four more injured victims on early Saturday.
The deceased are Morsheda Begum, wife of local Awami League leader Mostak Ahmed, Mehedi Hasan,4, son of Morsheda, Abu Saleh Hawladar, an army man, Mohsin alias Tipu, a supervisor of Hanif Paribahan, its helper Tarikul, hailing from Bagerhat, Arif Azad, a salesman of a pharmaceutical company, and Sahabuddin, a Lebanon expatriate.
Police said a Sylhet-bound ‘Hanif Paribahan’ bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a stationary truck on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway in the area at about 9:30pm, leaving three people–Tipu, Tariqul and Arif–dead on the spot and 34 others injured.
Of the injured, four people–Morsheda, Abu Saleh, Mehidi and Sahabuddin–died on the way to hospital.
The rest injured were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital and different local clinics.
Traffic on the busy road remained halted for two hours following the road accident.
Meanwhile, angered by the incident, locals set fire to a bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ at Kadamtoli in Dakkhin Surma upazila at about 2:00am on Saturday.
Later, a firefighting unit rushed in and doused the flame.
