Rangpur: A case was filed in connection with the killing of a Japanese man in Rangpur, 335km north-west of the capital, Dhaka.

The deceased, Hoshi Kunio, aged 66, was killed on Saturday morning in Rangpur’s Mahiganj area. He worked in an agriculture project in Rangpur.

Kaunia police officer-in-charge Rejaul Karim filed the case against three anonymous assailants with Kaunia police.

However, autopsy of Kunio’s body has not been done after 24 hours of the murder. The body was kept at Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue.

A representative team of Japan embassy and a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) forensic team of Rajshahi police recorded an inquest of the body at about 12:00am on Sunday.

The teams also collected evidence from the body.

Earlier, Japanese national Hoshi Kunio, was gunned down by three masked gunmen.

Hoshi who received two bullets in his chest was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police arrested four people — Zakaria, Humyan Kabir, Munnaf and Murad — from the area suspecting their involvement in the killing.

One of the four detained people was a rickshaw puller and another was the owner of a residence near where the attack took place, reported Reuters.

The incident was reported barely a week into the killing of an Italian national in the capital.
