Rangpur: A Rangpur court on Saturday sent local Bangladesh Nationalist Party activist Rashedun Nabi Biplab to jail in a case filed over the killing of Japanese national Hoshi Kunio in Kaunia, Rangpur.

Senior judicial magistrate Abu Taleb passed the order after police produced him before the court before completion of 10-day police custody.

Court sources said police produced Biplab before the court as they said there is no needed to interrogate him in police custody.

On Tuesday, the same court placed two people -- BNP activist Biplab and Kunio’s business partner Humayun Kabir Hira -- on a 10-day police custody each in connection with the murder.

Earlier, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police in their separate drives arrested Biplab and Hira from different parts of Rangpur city. They were later shown arrested in the case.

On 3 October, Hoshi Kunio, 65, was gunned down by miscreants at Alutari in Kaunia.

Police later filed a case against three unidentified people with Kaunia Police Station on the day in connection with the killing.
