Sylhet: Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in the teenage boy Rajon murder case, will be present before the court on Friday.

Kamrul was taken to Sylhet from Dhaka at about 10:00pm on Thursday after he was brought back home from Saudi Arabia.

A three-member police team along with Kamrul reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at about 3:00pm.

In Sylhet he was taken to the Sylhet Metropolitan Police office at Naiorpool.

SMP commissioner Quamrul Ahsan at about 10:15pm spoke at a press conference at his office when he said Kamrul he will be produced before a court on Friday.

The police team, led by additional superintendent of police Mahbubul Karim, had left Dhaka for Saudi Arabia on Monday for bringing the accused back.

Briefing reporters at the office of Airport Armed Police (AAP) in the afternoon, assistant inspector general (Media) of the police headquarters Md Nazrul Islam said fugitive accused Kamrul has been brought to Dhaka from Saudi Arabia.

As there is no 'repatriation of prisoners' agreement with Saudi Arabia, absconding accused Kamrul has been brought back through the Interpol, Nazrul said.

So far, 10 absconding accused, including Kamrul, have brought back to Bangladesh from abroad, he added.

With the arrest of Kamrul, AIG Nazrul said, 11 people have been arrested in the murder case. Now police are trying to arrest two other absconding accused. ‘We’re hopeful that they will be arrested soon.’

About the police officers allegedly involved in helping Kamrul flee the country, the AIG said an inquiry has already been conducted in this regard.

‘The responsible police officers have already been suspended and action will be taken against them,’ he added.

The National Central Bureau (NCB) of the Police Headquarters on 21 July issued a red notice against absconding Kamrul through the Interpol after officially being sure that he was arrested in Riyadh.

On 8 July, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila of Sylhet, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the Sylhet city.

The killers themselves took video footage of the incident, which went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube, triggering a widespread outcry.

Ten people were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder and eight of them made ‘confession’ separately to their involvement in the incident.

Later, the investigation officer of the case submitted a chargesheet accusing 13 people, including absconding Kamrul, on August 16 before court in Sylhet.

The other accused are Muhit Alam, Shamim Alam, Pavel Islam, Ali Haider alias Ali, Moyna Mia, Nur Ahmed alias Nuru Mia, Dulal Ahmed, Ayaz Ali, Taz Uddin Badal, Firoz Mia, Asmat Ali, and Ruhul Amin.

The fugitive accused were Kamrul Islam, his brother Shamim Ahmed and Pavel.

Kamrul Islam, had fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident where he was held by local Bangladeshis and then handed over to Jeddah police.

The Saudi Interior Ministry earlier approved the extradition of Kamrul to Bangladesh.

On 21 July, the Interpol issued a notice against him.
