Police arrested BNP national executive committee member Major (retd) Hanif from Banani area in the capital on Saturday morning.

Law enforcers picked the BNP leader up at about 6:45am on his way to the residence of party standing committee member Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

He said Hanif was supposed to go to the Central Shaheed Minar along with Mahbubur Rahman to pay homage to the language martyrs when police detained him.
