Arguments in Rajon murder case to begin 25 Oct

Sylhet: The placing of arguments in the teenage boy Rajon murder case will begin on 25 October.

Metropolitan Session’s Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha fixed the date on Sunday after completing the recording of depositions of witnesses in the case.

On the last day, another policeman testified before the local court in connection with the gruesome murder.

The court recorded the statement of Inspector Suranjit Talukdar of Detective Branch (DB) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), also investigation officer of the case, at noon.

With this, 36 witnesses out of total 38 made their depositions before the court while police could not find the two other witnesses.

Meanwhile, all the arrested accused, including prime accused Kamrul Islam who was brought back home from Saudi Arabia on Thursday, were produced before the court on Sunday.

Besides, hundreds of people staged demonstration in front of the court in the morning demanding death penalty of the accused.

On 8 July, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila of Sylhet, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of Sylhet city.

The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident, which went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which triggered a widespread outcry.

Ten people were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder and eight of them made ‘confession’ separately to their involvement in the incident.

Later, the investigation officer of the case submitted charge sheet accusing 13 people on 16 August before the court in Sylhet.

The accused are Kamrul Islam, 35, Muhit Alam, 32, Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, Shamim Ahmed (fugitive), 20, Taz Uddin Ahmed Badal, 28, Moyna Mia, 45, Ruhul Amin, 25, Dulal Ahmed, 30, , Nur Ahmed alias Nuru Mia, 20, Firoz Mia, 50, Asmat Ullah ,42, Pavel Islam, 18, Zakir alias Pavel alias Raju (fugitive), and Ayaz Ali, 45.
