Lakshmipur: An alleged robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Charshahi village in Sadar upazila  of Lakshmipur early on Thursday.

The deceased is Abdur Rahim, a resident of Durgapur village of the upazila.

Team of police conducted a drive at the village a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area at about 3:00am, said the Chandraganj police.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

At one stage, Rahim was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene.

However, constables Mohosin, Mahabub and Ibrahim of the police station were injured in the incident.

Police also recovered one foreign- made pistol and four machetes from the spot.
