50 injured in clash over land

Sylhet: At least 50 people, including women, were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land-related dispute at Maonpur village in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district in Sylhet on Wednesday evening.
Quoting locals, the Jagannathpur police said Soil Mia and Ashik Mia of the village had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.
Over the issue, supporters of the two groups equipped with firmarms and sharp weapons locked in a bloody clash at about 6:00pm, leaving at least 50 people injured.
Later, two bullet injured people were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital while the rest were taken to Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex.
Additional policemen were deployed in the area to avert untoward incidents following the clash.
