Brahmanbaria: A court here on Monday sent some 44 leaders and activists of local BNP, including district unit president M Hafizur Rahman Kochi and general secretary Jahirul Haque Khokon, to jail in 13 violence cases.

Judge of the District and Session’s Judge Court M Kawsar passed the order after they surrendered before his court seeking bail. 

Meanwhile, the court granted bail to district Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) general secretary Yeasin Mahmud and local Swechchhasebak Dal leader Mainul Islam on health grounds. 

The cases were filed against them with different police stations in the district under the Explosive Substances Act and Speedy Trial Act on charges of carrying out subversive activities and attacking police during the BNP-led alliance’s hartal.
