Gaibandha: A 12-hour hartal enforced by ‘Samya Mancha’ and different professional bodies demanding the arrest and punishment of the killers of schoolboy Ashiqur Rahman Samya, is underway peacefully in Gobindaganj upazila on Wednesday.

The deceased Ashiqur Rahman Samya was son of Ataur Rahman, mayor of Gobindaganj municipality, also an Awami League leader.

A procession was brought out in support of the shutdown that began at 6:00am and will end at 6:00pm.

No untoward incident was reported till filing this report at about 11:30am.

A large number of policemen remained deployed in the upazila to fend off any trouble.

Vehicular movement on the town roads was almost normal in the morning.

Earlier on 25 September, police recovered the body of Samya from a septic tank at Battali in Gobindaganj upazila.
