Pabna: Police arrested one over the Christian church priest murder attempt case at Ishwardi in Pabna.

The accused, Raqibul Hassan, was arrested from Majidpur area of the Sadar upazila at about 11:30am on Wednesday.

Police claimed Raqibul is the regional commander of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh in Pabna.

Raqibul Hassan is also known as Rajon alias Rafique, said police.

The Pabna police said Sadar police and district detective branch (DB) arrested Raqibul from Majidpur area in secret information.

Police also said Raqibul was the main planner for attacking church priest, Luk Sarkar.

On 5 October, 50-year-old priest of ‘Faith Bible Church’ escaped a murder attempt with injures at School Para under Ishwardi upazila in Pabna.

Victim’s wife Padma Sarkar said three young men came to their house on a motorcycle at about 9:00am to listen to sermons from her husband.

Hearing his screams from another room, Padma said, she rushed there and found her husband lying in a pool of blood and the youths fleeing the house.

Later, a case was filed in this connection.
