Dhaka: The owner of Jagriti Prokashony, a publication house, Faisal Arefin Dipan has been hacked to death by miscreants at Shahbagh’s Aziz Supermarket in Dhaka, hours after Shuddhaswar publication owner Ahmed Rashid Tutul, along with two other bloggers, were stabbed in the capital’s Lalamatia on Saturday.

Faisal Arefin Dipan was murdered at his office in central Dhaka, Imran H Sarker, the spokesman of the Ganajagoran Mancha, told AFP.

‘He was hacked to death. I saw him dead,’ he said.

Police confirmed that Dipan was seriously injured in the attack and was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Dipan is the son of a noted Bangladesh writer Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq and owns Jagriti Prokashony.

Earlier, a group of miscreants stormed into the office of Tutul’s publishing house office on the third floor of a building at Lalmitia around 2:45pm and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, said ASI Abdullah Al Mamun of Mohammadpur police.

Later, Tutul and two other bloggers were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at about 3:15pm. Tutul’s condition was stated to be critical.

Dipan was a publisher of slain blogger-writer Avijit Roy who was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured seriously as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University campus on 26 February.

Avijit and Rafida, an expatriate couple living in the USA, returned home a few days ahead of the horrific incident as his two books were published on the occasion of Amar Ekushey Book Fair.
