Habiganj: Three people, including two women, were killed and four others injured as a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Nabiganj in Habiganj on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Sakhina Bibi, 40, wife of Kason Miah of Kandigaon village in the upazila, her paternal aunt Mukhlis Bibi, 60, and Sufiyan, 22, son of Abdul Hannan of the same area.

Police and locals said the accident took place when the Sylhet-bound bus of ‘Mamun Paribahan’ from Dhaka hit the auto-rickshaw carrying seven people, including five members of a family, at Dinarpur around 1:000pm, leaving Sakhina dead on the spot and six others injured.

Mukhlis Bibi died on the way to hospital.

As five injured people were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital doctors declared Sufiyan among them dead.

Outraged by the accidents, local people blocked the highway and torched a bus protesting the death.

The traffic movement became normal around 2:00pm following police intervention.
