Parliament: Bangladesh public servants from now on will lose their job if they marry foreigners without the President’s permission.

The Parliament on Monday passed the Public Servants (Marriage with Foreign Nationals) Bill 2015 in accordance with the recommendations made by the concerned parliamentary standing committee.

Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam moved the bill in the House, which was subsequently passed through voice votes.

The bill proposes annulment of the Public Servants (Marriage with Foreign Nationals) Ordinance, 1976 and reformulation of the same.

According to the bill, no public servants will be able to marry or give assurance of marrying any foreign national without taking permission from the President of Bangladesh.

Earlier, ARM Obaidur Moktadir Chowdhury on behalf of chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Administration Ministry HN Ashiqur Rahman placed the report on the Public Servants (Marriage with Foreign Nationals) Bill 2015 in the Parliament on 9 November.

Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam introduced the Public Servants (Marriage with Foreign Nationals) Bill 2015 in the House on 9 September 2015.

Later, the House sent the bill to the concerned parliamentary standing committee for scrutiny and report back to the House within 60 days.
