Bogra: A tribunal in Bogra on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his pregnant wife in Bogra Sadar upazila in 2000, says a UNB report.

The convict was identified as Bappy Miah, son of Abdus Salam, a resident of Manikchalk Hatilapur village.

The court also fined him Tk 100,000.

According to the persecution, Bappy and his wife Kohinur locked into an altercation over a trifling matter on 14 June 2000.

At a stage of the quarrel, Bappy beat up his wife with a stick and a rod, leaving the expecting woman dead on the spot.

Police recovered the body on the following day.

Kohinur’s father filed a murder case with Bogra Sadar Police Station against Bappy, his two brothers and mother.

Bogra police sub-inspector Majibur Rahman submitted a charge sheet against the accused on 10 November.

After a long hearing, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 of Bogra SM Saiful Islam handed down the verdict acquitting the other accused in the case.
