Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said her government attaches great importance to the relations between Dhaka and London as the United Kingdom is Bangladesh’s time-tested friend, reports United News of Bangladesh.

She came up with the remarks when outgoing British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson met the Prime Minister at her office.

After the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.

He said Sheikh Hasina expressed gratitude to the UK, its people and political leaders for their support during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh and Britain have strong bonds of friendship and share common values of democracy and freedom.

She reiterated her government’s policy of zero tolerance against terrorism.

Elaborating her government’s various pro-people steps, the Prime Minister said they have opened up everything to private sector.

Talking about materialising digital Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said her government is digitising 8,000 post offices to make over 200 types of digital services available for the common people apart from 5,275 union digital centres.

In response, the British High Commissioner thanked the Prime Minister for extending supports and cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad was, among others, present.
