Firebombing injures 6 at religious fair
A group of miscreants firebombed a religious fair on early Saturday in Dinajpur, a northern district of Bangladesh. Six people were injured in the attack.
The attack took place at about 1:00am on Saturday during the Ras Mela — a traditional fair celebrated by Hindus — near Kantajew Temple, a historic monument. Visitors at the fair said unidentified number of miscreants hurled three Molotov cocktails while a jatra — local variant of stage play — was being staged.
Fair committee president Tariqul Islam said the ‘jatra’ was arranged on the occasion of the fair.
A number of witnesses claimed the attack took place under the nose of policemen on duty at the fair. The officer-in-charge of local police station could not be reached while filing this report.
Six people with critical injury were admitted to Dinajpur medical Hospital. Four among them were released after being given first aid.
