10 DU students assaulted by ‘BCL men’
Dhaka: Ten students of Dhaka University’s Zia Hall were assaulted allegedly by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists with iron rods and hockey sticks on Saturday morning for being late in a BCL programme.
The injured are Md Ashique of Sociology, Alamgir Hossain of Bangla, Md Liton of Psychology, Jueal Mia of English, Fuad and Firoz of Management and Information Studies, Md Kamal of Institute of Education and Research, MD Shahadat and Md Sagar of Finance and Mosharraf Islam. As the ten students were late to get up in the morning to be able to attend the programme, Bani Amin Mollah, acting secretary of Zia Hall BCL unit, and his supporters, called them up in the guest room and beat them with iron rods and hockey sticks.
Meanwhile, at least three BCL activists of Sir AF Rahman Hall were injured in a factional clash on the campus at the dead of night on Friday.
The injured are Mahmudul HasanTushar, Humayun Kabir and Abul Bashar.
BCL DU general secretary Zakir Hossain said, ‘I’ve heard about those incidents and we’ll take proper organisational action against the culprits.’
