Sylhet: A total of 459 answer sheets of recently concluded Primary School Certificate (PSC) examinations were burnt in a fire incident in sadar upazila complex on Saturday morning, reports United News of Bangladesh.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning.

Sylhet Divisional Primary Education Department Deputy Director Tahmina Begum said it might be an incident of sabotage.

A case was filed with Shahporan police on behalf of the sadar upazila education officer.

An anonymous source said the officials of the complex were trying to conceal the incident.

The papers had been kept in a glass-covered room of the complex.

The officials found a total of 459 answer sheets, tied in 14 bundles, lying burnt in the room on Saturday morning.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mir Mahabubur Rahman, also president of the PSC examination committee, and Upazila Education Officer Mohiuddin Ahmed said the 459 answer sheets included 141 of English, 318 of Bangla and Bishwa Porichoy.

District Primary Education Officer Nurul Islam said, ‘We will investigate the incident to know the details.’

Primary School Certificate examinations that began across the country on 22 November ended on 30 November.

The result is scheduled to be published on 23 December.
