Mymensingh: A Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader was killed by his rival group at Char Bholamari of Nandail in Mymensingh on Wednesday evening.

The deceased is Shafiqul Islam.

Betagoir union council chairman Abul Hossain Sarkar said the killing occurred over a land dispute between the residents of Sardar bari and Moishal bari of Char Bhelamari.

Rafiqul Islam, Shafiqul’s brother, said a group of six-seven men attacked him and his brother as they were sitting in a clothes shop at Char Godarhat market. The men hacked Shafiqul indiscriminately with sharp weapon.

Shafiqul died on his way to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.

Nandail Police officer-in-charge Mohammad Mahbubul Haque said no case was filed in this connection.
