Lawmaker Liton’s bail extended until 17 Jan
Gaibandha: A Gaibandha court on Tuesday extended the bail of Manjurul Islam Liton, Awami League lawmaker from Gaibandha-1 constituency, until 17 January next in a case filed for shooting a minor boy.
Judge Maniruzzaman Shikdar of Sundarganj cognisance court passed the order after Liton appeared before the court with a petition seeking extension of his bail, says a UNB report.
On 2 October, minor boy Sourav, 8, son of Sazu Miah of Gopalcharan village, suffered wounds to his both legs with bullets allegedly fired by Manjurul Islam Liton at the village in Sundarganj upazila.
Victim’s father Sazu filed an attempted murder case against Liton on the following day.
On 8 October, another case was filed against him on charge of vandalising and looting a house.
Later, on 14 October, detectives arrested Liton form Uttara in the capital.
The following day, he was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Gaibandha and the court sent him to jail rejecting his bail petition.
On 8 November, a local court granted interim bail to the ruling party lawmaker until the prorogation of 8th parliament session.
On 24 November, the same court granted interim bail until 8 December to Manjurul Islam Liton when he appeared before the court on the prorogation of the parliament session with a bail petition.
