Sherpur: Police arrested two people from Khamarpara village of Jhenaigathi upazila in Sherpur on Tuesday for allegedly violating a mentally disabled girl and distributing video clips of the incident.

The arrestees are Alauddin Miah, 25 of Khamarpara village in the upazila, and Shaheen Miah, 26, of Dohalia village in Nalitabari upazila of the district.

Police and locals said the two youths took the 15-year-old disabled girl to a secret place at Tengrakhali, tempting her with good food while she was going to her grandmother’s (father’s mother) house in Nanni village five months ago.

At one stage, they violated the girl forcibly and recorded the scene of the rape with a mobile phone. They gave her death threats.

The incident came to light when the video clip was circulated locally through mobile phones seven days ago.

As the video clip went viral within the community, relatives and locals got appalled and informed the police. The victim also explained to her relatives how she was violated on death threats and told to keep her mouth shut.

Police in a drive arrested the two youths from separate areas on Tuesday after identifying them from the video footage.

The victim’s maternal grandmother filed a case with Jhenigathi Police Station in this connection.
