Dinajpur: Police arrested a young man from Singra forest area of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur on Friday morning in connection with bomb and gun attack on a temple in Kaharole upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The arrestee is Mozammel Hossain, 25, hailing from Lalmonirhat, reports United News of Bangladesh, a local news agency.

The district’s superintendent of police Mohammad Ruhul Amin said Mozammel sought shelter in a house of the village at about 10:00am.

As the villagers became suspicious over his movement, they encircled him and tried to catch him.

Sensing danger, the youth tried to flee from the area and opened fire at the villagers, leaving one injured.

At one stage, the villagers managed to catch him and handed him over to Birganj Police Station.

Police suspected that he might have taken shelter in Singra forest after the temple attack at Thursday night.

On Thursday night, two people were injured as miscreants exploded a bomb and then fired gunshots in a temple, run by International Society for Krishna Consciousness under Dabar union in Kaharole upazila of the district at about 8:00pm when the temple committee was in a meeting inside.

Locals also caught two suspects in connection with the attack and handed them over to Kaharole Police Station.

Earlier on 5 December, 10 people were injured as three crude bombs went off under the canopy of a ‘jatra’ show on the premises of Kantaji Temple in the upazila.
