Habiganj: A young man was killed and 10 others injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over the ownership of a disputed land at Pathuria in Shahartali, Habiganj on Friday morning.

The deceased is Selim Mia, a bachelor degree student of Brindaban Government College.

Baniyachong upzila  Awami League organising secretary Ahad Mia said there had been a longstanding dispute between local BNP leader Tahir Mia and Awami League leader Tenu Mia over the ownership of the land at the village.

The clash ensued between the two rival groups as Tenu Mia’s followers went to visit the land at about 8:30am and Tahir Mia’s supporters obstructed them.

Tenu Mia’s son Selim Mia was critically injured during the clash. Later he was taken to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Ahad Mia said three among the injured were sent to Osmani Medical College Hospital while the others were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital.

Baniachong police said Taiyab Ali was held from the spot in this connection and took to the police station for questioning.
