BCL, Juba League leaders held for beating policeman

Khagrachhari: Police have arrested a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader and a Juba League leader for beating a policeman at Maischhari Bazar of Mohalchhari upazila in Khagrachhari on Saturday morning.

The arrestees are Maischhari union Juba League president Hazrat Ali and Chhatra League president Saiful Isalm.

The victim is sub-inspector Mohammad Shahidul Isalm, in-charge of Maischhari police outpost.

Khagrachhari additional superintendent of police Enayet Hossain said Shahidul tried to settle a dispute between two persons of the village­–Jahir and Binoy Chakma.

Shahidul had an altercation with Jahir at about 10:00am on Saturday. At one point, 8-10 people led by Hazrat Ali and Saiful Isalm beat up Shahidul, leaving him injured.

Later, army members rescued Shahidul and took him to Khagrachhari Sadar hospital.

Police arrested the two leaders in the afternoon.

Preparation is on to file a case over the incident.
