Dhaka: Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina on Sunday asked BGB personnel to remain alert so that incident like the 2009 BDR mutiny does not recur in the future.

‘BGB has turned into a dynamic and modern force with the sincere efforts of all. Through your hard labour, the reputation and dignity of this force have been restored…you must stay alert so that suck suicidal incident cannot take place in the future,’ she said.

The Prime Minister was addressing the formal parade of BGB Day-2015 held at the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) Headquarters in Dhaka.

Terming the mutiny and killings at Peelkhana on 25-26 February 2009 as a black chapter of this force, Sheikh Hasina said she had to face the heinous and unstable situation like BDR mutiny and killings soon after assuming office and tackled it with the united efforts of the BGB members.

Mentioning that the BGB is now fully free form its stigma following the trial of its unruly and misleading personnel involved with the mutiny, she asked the BGB personnel to discharge their duties with utmost honesty and patriotism and thus gain the confidence and trust of people.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday expressed her firm optimism that members of the newly reformed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) would discharge their duties with utmost honesty and patriotism to uphold the goodwill and dignity of the border force and earn public confidence.

She said the mutiny that took place at Pilkhana on 25-26 February in 2009 is a black chapter in the 220 years’ history of the force. The Border Guard Bangladesh Act was enacted aimed at building a modern and time-befitting border force, she said.

The prime minister was addressing the BGB Parade marking the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Day 2015 at BGB headquarters at Pilkhana in Dhaka, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Shangstha.

Sheikh Hasina said the flag of the BGB was raised on 23 January, 2011 to expedite the operational activities of the force. With the sincere efforts of all the border force is now free from all curses and stepped in becoming into a dynamic and modern force, she said.

‘The goodwill and dignity of the force has been restored because of hard labour of all members of the force,’ she said, adding that the force is playing a better role than in the past in any emergency period, natural disaster, nation building activities and in aid of civil administration.

On her arrival at BGB headquarters, Home Minister Asaduzzaman khan and Director General of BGB Major General Aziz Ahmed received the prime minister.

On the occasion, an attractive parade was arranged at Bir Uttam Anwar Hossain Parade Ground at BGB headquarters. The prime minister reviewed the parade and took salute.

Cabinet members, PM’s advisors, Leader of the Opposition, parliament members, and chiefs of three services, diplomats and high civil and military officials were present.

The prime minister handed over BGB Medal (BGBM) to 10 BGB members, President Border Guard Medal (PBGM) to 20 BGB members, BGB Medal-Service (BGBMS) to 10 BGB members and PBGM-Service (PBGMS) to 20 BGB members for their courageous and brilliant contribution in various activities of the BGB.
