Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Tuesday revealed a brief list of its 25 missing leaders and activists responding to Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader's call to do so.

"The Awami League general secretary has talked about the list of people who were made disappeared. I'm presenting a shortlist of our missing leaders, mainly of those in Dhaka," said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office, he said it will take some time to present the full list of their missing leaders and activists, reports news agency UNB.

The 25 missing BNP men include MA Ilias Ali, Saiful Islam Hiru, Chowdhury Alam, Humayun Kabir Parvez, Aminul Islam Jakir, Sajedul Islam Sumon, his cousin Zahidul Karim, Abdul Quader Bhuiyan, Mazharul Islam, Asaduzzaman, Al Amin, AM Adnan Chowdhury, Kausar Ahmed, Mahbub Hasan, Khalid Hasan, Samrat Mollah, Jahirul Islam, Parvez Hossain, Mohammad Sohel, Sohel Chanchal, Nazimuddin Munna, Tariqul Islam Jhantu, Quazi Farhad, Selim Reza Pintu and businessman Giasuuddin Kusum.

Most of them were made 'disappeared' from Tejgaon, Gulshan, Airport, West Nakhalpara, East Nakhalpara, Mugdha, Uttar Badda and Sabujbagh areas, said Rizvi.

He alleged that law enforcers made disappeared at least 50 people from Dhaka city and its adjoining districts before the January-5, 2014 election. "Most of the missing people were involved with either BNP or JCD politics."

As per the information gathered from different human rights organisations and victims' families, the BNP leader said around 435 people have so far been made 'disappeared' from 2013.

Of them, 252 are still traceless while 34 were shown arrested, 27 released and 39 found dead at different times.

Earlier on July 7, talking to reporters in Mymensingh, Quader asked BNP to present the names of its missing leaders and activists.

Rizvi said though the family members of the missing people are wailing, and waiting with huge pain to get them back, the ruling party leaders are mocking with their sorrow and tears.

He alleged that a plot is on to brand poet and columnist Farhad Mazhar's kidnapping as a drama. "He is the latest victim of government's wrath. He was traumatised so badly that he can't even now recognise many of his relatives."
