Patuakhali:  Miscreants attacked on the motorcade of BNP leader Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, also former home minister, when he went to campaign Haji Humayun Shikder, his party-endorsed mayoral candidate for Kolapara municipality, in Rahmatpur, Patuakhali on Tuesday morning.

At least seven people, including Altaf Hossain’s wife Suraiya Akhter Chowdhury and two journalists, were injured during the attack.

The Kalapara police inspector said Altaf Hossain Chowdhury reached Kolapara along with the party leaders, activists, and journalists by six microbuses at about 10:00am. A group of miscreants, armed with sticks and stones, attacked on their motorcade as they neared Rahmatpur.

The injured journalists are local correspondent of Jamuna Television Jakaria Hridoy and Arifur Rahman of Baishakhi Television, said police.

The assaulters also snatched the television camera from Jakaria.

Police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
