3 held over Khagrachhari Krishak Dal leader killing
Khagrachhari: Police on Wednesday arrested three people in connection with the killing of local Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal leader Nazrul Islam at Matiranga upazila in Khagrachhari, reports UNB.
Matiranga police officer-in-charge Shahadat Hosssain Tito said they arrested the trio suspecting their link to the murder.
He also said Nazrul’s wife Sharifa Begum filed a case in connection with the murder.
Nazrul Islam, 52, senior vice-president of upazila unit of Krishak Dal, the farmer wing of BNP, was hacked to death by miscreants in Adarshagram area of Matiranga upazila on Tuesday night.
Sources at Matiragna Health Complex said Nazrul came under attack by a group of miscreants in the area at about 8:30pm on his way home after joining electioneering in favour of BNP-backed candidate in the municipal election.
The attackers hacked him with sharp weapons indiscriminately, leaving him injured critically. Nazrul was taken to the health complex where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, local BNP on Wednesday demanded exemplary punishment of the killers of Nazrul and deployment of army for creating a level-playing field for the municipal polls.
The demand was made at a press conference at Khagrachhari press club.
District BNP president and former lawmaker Wadud Bhuiyan read out a written statement at the press club.
