Juba League leader held over rape of teenager

Sylhet: Police arrested a local Juba league leader of Sunamganj in a case filed over rape of a teenager girl after kidnapping her on 22 July.
The detainee is Hasanuzzaman Ispahani, a member of municipality Juba League, claimed police.
A team of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) arrested Ispahani from his residence at the village of Arfin Nagar in Sunamganj in the early hours of Thursday.
The Kotowali police Sub-inspector (SI) Foyez Ahmed said Ispahani and his four associates abducted the teenage girl from in front of Sylhet’s Osmani Medical College Hospital on 22 July. Later on 23 July, a case was filed with the Kotwali police.
On 25 July, the teenager girl was recovered in injured condition from Sunamganj and taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital’s One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC).
The case’s investigation officer SI Khokon said, the victim gave deposition before court on 26 July. According to her statement, Ispahani and his associates took her to Sunamganj after abducting her. They locked her up in an empty room and physically abused her.
The teenager giril, who is Hindu, has recently passed her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations from Sylhet’s PDB School.
Police said Ispahani is accused in a total of 22 cases on several charges. Local people brought accusation against him for collecting extortion regularly from Sunamganj Bus Terminal.
