Defamation case filed against Khaleda Zia

Narail: A defamation case was filed against Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia for raising question about the figures of Liberation War martyrs.
Raihan Faruki Imam, a resident of Chapail village in Kalia of the district, filed the case against the BNP chief with Narail cognisance court on Thursday noon.
Later, senior judicial magistrate Muhammad Zakaria of the court took the case into cognisance and ordered judicial investigation into it.
The court also directed the authorities concerned to submit the probe report before it by 2 February 2016.
According to the case, several newspapers on 22 December carried a report headlined ‘There’s controversy over the number of martyrs: Khaleda’.
Khaleda Zia raised question over the figure of Liberation War martyrs while addressing a rally at the Institute of Engineers in the city, organised by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal marking the Victory Day on 21 December, said the case.
Without mentioning anyone’s name Khaleda Zia also said, ‘He didn’t want independence. He wanted to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan,’ it said.
Earlier, on Wednesday, a Supreme Court Lawyer sent a legal notice to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia asking her to seek unconditional apology from the nation for raising question about the figures of Liberation War martyrs.
