Law enforcers arrested three more accused, including a woman, from Savar on Sunday night in a case filed for shaving the heads of a girl and her mother after the rape of the girl.

A joint force of Police from Bogra, Savar and Dhaka headquarters conducted a drive in Savar around 11:00pm and arrested Asha Sarker, wife of local Sramik League leader Tufan, and two of his associates Munna and Ali Azam, said Additional Police Super (Media) Sanatan Chakrabarty.

Earlier, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police in a drive arrested councillor Marzia Hasan Rumki and her mother Rumi Khatun from the district town of Pabna around 7:45pm, said the ASP.

Meanwhile, detectives also arrested Tufan’s father Ronu from his house at Badurtala in the district town around 9:00 pm.

Besides, a court here placed Tufan, and two of his associates on a three-day remand in two cases filed for raping the girl and torturing her along with her mother in the district town.

On 17 July, Tufan took the girl to his house at Badurtala in the district town promising to arrange her admission into a local college and raped her there.

As the girl went to Rumki’s house, seeking justice, his supporters—Atiqur, Rupom and Azam—picked the girl up along with her mother from their house at Namajgarh in the town and took them to the house of Tufan on Friday afternoon.

Tufan, Rumki, her sister Asha Sarker and mother Rumi allegedly beat the girl and her mother with sticks while three Sramik League men shaved their heads.

Later, the girl’s mother filed two cases against 10 people, including Tufan, his wife and sister-in-law, with the Sadar Police Station on Friday night.

Police arrested Tufan and his three associates from different areas of the district town soon after the filing of the cases.

Police arrested Tufan Sarkar, convener of the town unit of Sramik League, and his three associates—Rupom, Ali Azam and Atiqur Rahman—from different areas of the district town soon after the filing of the cases on Friday night.
