3 get death penalty for killing man in Pirojpur

Pirojpur: A Pirojpur court on Monday sentenced three people to death and seven others, including a woman, to life term imprisonment for killing a young man in Sadar upazila in 2012.

The condemned convicts are Shahinur Rahman alias Sanu, Rezaul Khan, Mizan Bepari, residents of Kalikathi village in Sadar

upazila while the lifers are Roksana Begum, mother of Rezaul, Mamun Matbor, Nizam Akond, Rasel, Nizam Talukder, Omar Faruk Mithu, and Sumon Sheikh.

Among them, Sanu and Rezaul Khan were tried in absentia.

Besides, the court fined the condemned convicts Tk 20,000 each and the lifers Tk 10,000 each, in default, the lifers have to suffer six moths more jail.

According to prosecution, Firoz Majhi, 22, a messenger of the office of Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner, was stabbed to the

death by the convicts on April 4, 2012 over previous enmity.

Later, victim’s mother Nasima Begum filed a case against them.

Police submitted chargesheet on July 14, 2012.

After examining the records and 12 witnesses, S M Zillur Rahman, additional district and sessions judge, handed down the verdict.
