27 people rescued in Benapole while being smuggled to India
Benapole: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh rescued 27 people while they were being smuggled to India through Sadipur border point at Benapole on Saturday morning.
Subedar Ayub Ali, of BGB 26 battalion, said being tipped off that some people were being smuggled to India through the border point, a BGB team conducted a drive in the morning and rescued them.
The rescued people, who hail from different areas in Bagerhat, Satkhira, and Narail districts, included 19 women, four men and four children, added the BGB official.
However, sensing the presence of the BGB members, the human smuggling gang members fled the scene.
Later, the smuggling victims were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
A case was filed in this connection, said Sujit Kumar, sub-inspector of Benapole Port Police Station.
