BNP leader’s motorcade comes under attack in Ctg

Chittagong: The motorcade of BNP chairperson’s adviser Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin came under attack allegedly by ruling party men at Gochra Chowmuhani of Rangunia upazila in Chittagong while campaigning for a BNP mayoral candidate on Saturday, leaving eight people injured.
Local Awami League leaders, however, denied the allegation, reports UNB.
Nasiruddin alleged that the attack was led by local Juba League activist Arju.
Gunshots were fired at them while they were conducting an election campaign in the area.
Later, Nasiruddin said, the activists of Juba League and Chhatra League swooped on BNP leaders and activists with rods and sticks, foiling their electioneering.
The BNP leader said he was able to escape unhurt as he left the scene hurriedly.
Four of the injured were taken to a private clinic in the city, said Mir Nasir’s personal assistant Aminul Islam.
Aminul said the attack was made by over a hundred of ruling party men 20 minutes after ex-AL minister Hasan Mahmud’s motorcade crossed the BNP men’s gathering in Gochra area.
Contacted, Rangunia AL acting general secretary Shamsul Alam said there was no incident of attack on BNP leader Nasir.
He said a chase and counter-chase took place between the supporters of BNP and Awami League mayoral candidates when they were on electioneering in the same area.
Shamsul Alam said police brought the situation under control.
