BCL men beat up 13 Shibir men at RU, hand over them to police

Rajshahi: Leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Rajshahi University (RU) unit beat up 13 students of the university on suspicion of that they are activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and later handed them over to police early on Wednesday.
Police detained 13 students, including the injured ones, and seized Jihadi books, documents of Chhatra Shibir, two computers and Tk 19,000 from their possession.
The detainees are Ashiqul Hasan Nafis, fourth year student of Anthropology department, Ariful Islam, master’s student of
French Language and Literature, Abu Jafar, master’s student of Arabic department, Rakib Ahmed, second year student of Law department, Mahmudul Hasan, fourth year student of Botany, Shariful Islam, fourth year student of Statistics, Jakir Hossain, third year student of Islamic History, also secretary of Shibir Zoha Hall unit, Shahanur Alam Himel, fourth year student of Statistics, Saheb Rana, third year student of Information and Communication Engineering, Abdur Rakib, third year student of Islamic Studies, Nabiul Islam, Aliul Islam, master’s students of Arabic Literature, and Golam Rabbani, third year student of the same department.
RU BCL president Golam Kibria said, ‘We conducted the raid on Hossain Shaheed Suhrawarthy Hall at 12:00 am to retaliate the attack on two fellow leaders by Shibir men in Sylhet. BCL men are always ready to fight against evil forces as the elements are continuously hatching conspiracy against the country.’
Motihar Police Station officer-in-charge (Investigation) Mahbub Hossian said they were present at the hall but did not take part in the raid as hall authorities denied permission.
Later, the injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
During primary interrogation, most of the detainees confessed to their involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Action would be taken after investigation, the OC added.
On August 7, Chhatra Shibir men allegedly hacked two BCL activists in Sobahanighat area of Sylhet, leaving them seriously injured.
