Man held in afternoon, killed in ‘gunfight’ at night

Brahmanbaria: A man, who was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, was killed during a reported gunfight with police at Sarail upazila in Brahaman at night.

The Sarail police Officer-in-charge (OC) Rupok Kumar Saha told NTV Online the deceased is Mamun Mia, in his thirties, a resident of the village of Dewra.

OC said the shootout took place in the village of the upazila on late night of Wednesday.

However, the body was sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue on Thursday morning for autopsy.

The police official said police arrested Mamun over a case in the afternoon. Later, a team of law enforcers went for a drive at Dewra village along with Mamun. Sensing presence of police, miscreants opened fire to them, police also fired back. The firing triggered a gunfight between the law enforcers and criminals, which left Mamun dead on the spot.

Mamun’s wife, Tania claimed to the journalists that there was no case filed against his husband.
