Benapole: A young housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband and in-laws over a dowry related feud at Sultanpur village in Sadar upazila of Jessore district on Saturday night.

The deceased is Shabana Khatun, 25, wife of Sadar Uddin, a resident of Sultanpur village, reports UNB.

Muhit Ali, father of the deceased, alleged that Sadar demanded Tk 50,000 from Shabana seven months ago.

Failing to get the money, Sadar and his family members started torturing her. On Saturday night, Sadar and his family members beat and strangulated Shabana over the issue, leaving her dead on the spot.

Later, they hanged her body from the ceiling fan of her room in a bid to prove the matter as suicide and informed her family members, added Muhit Ali.

Shabana’s family members rushed to the spot and immediately informed police.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Sadar and his family members went into hiding after the incident.

Solaiman, sub-inspector of Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station, confirmed the incident.

The SI also said there are several injury marks on the body. ‘It'll be clear after getting the autopsy report whether it is an incident of murder or suicide.’
