6 held over journalist murder in Rangpur

Rangpur: Police have arrested six people, including a woman, from different parts of Rangpur city and Mithapukur upazila in connection with the murder of local journalist Utsho Rahman.

Abdul Qader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said a team of police in separate drives arrested five people from different parts of the city on Sunday night while a woman, Rukhsana Parveen, 30, was arrested from Boiragirganj of Mithapukur upazila on the same day.

On 24 December, police recovered the body of Utsho Rahman, 30, a staff reporter of local newspaper ‘Juger Alo’ and son of Samsul Huda Mondal of Pirpur, from Tamfata area of the city, reports UNB.

Utshow went missing at about 9:30pm on Wednesday (23 December) after he went out of the office to attend an invitation at the house of his maternal aunt at Mahiganj in the city.

The law enforcers recovered the body beside Rangpur-Bogra highway at Tamfata.

Police detained Utshow’s friend Moksedul Islam on the day for interrogation.

A case was filed in this connection.
