‘Militant’ Saiful’s father held for interrogation
Khulna: Father of suspected militant Saiful Islam, who was killed during ‘Operation August Bite’ at a residential hotel near Square Hospital in capital’s Panthapath area on Tuesday morning, Abul Khaer was held from Khulna for interrogation.
Police detained Abul Khaer from Naukati village under Shahash union of Domoria upazila of the district around 8:00am.
Khulna Superintendent of Police (SP) Nizamuddin said police detained Saiful’s father for interrogation.
Abul Khaer is the treasurer of Shahash union unit of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and imam of Naukati Jaame Mosque, police said.
Abdur Rouf, uncle of Saiful, said Saiful was not involved in militant activities. He left home on August 7 for seeking a job.
Altaf Hossain, a freedom fighter in the locality, said that Saiful was a good boy. Saiful was not involved any offensive activities like terrorism. He was a boy with good behaviour.
Earlier, in the morning, law enforces cordoned off a building of Hotel Olio International near Square Hospital in Dhaka suspecting presence of militants inside the building.
Members of law enforcing units including the tactical unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) have taken position near the building.
It has been known that materials for conducting violence acts are stored at the house.
