Bagerhat: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two members of a sea robber gang from the Sundarbans in Bagerhat district on Thursday morning.

The arrestees are Mintu Gazi, in his thirties, second-in-command of Sumon Bahini, and Dhali, around 28 years old, said lieutenant colonel Anwaruzzaman, commanding officer of RAB 8 in Barisal.

RAB also recovered some firearms and bullets from the spot, he added.

However, the other members of the gang managed to flee the scene.

A RAB team conducted a drive in Andermanik Khal area under Chandpai range of Sundarbans east division last night, following information about the presence of sea robber gang ‘Sumon Bahini’ members in Sundarban.

‘Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing the elite force to retaliate that triggered a gunfight around 8:20am.

Several gunshots were traded between the criminals and Rab team during the 40-minute fight.

The drive was going on to arrest the other robbers, Anwaruzzaman added
