Tk 3.2million bridge collapses in an hour

Kushtia: It cost Tk 3.2 million (32 lakh) to build and less than an hour after the casting to collapse.
This is what happened to the under construction bridge over Chhatian Paruli lake of Mirpur upazila in the district on Wednesday.
Locals alleged that the bridge collapsed due to irregularities in the construction process overlooked by the authority.
Convener of Kushtia Conscious Citizen Committee Rafikul Alam Tuku said exemplary steps should be taken against those responsible for the collapse.
Local Union Parishad Chairman Jasim Uddin Biswas said they received allocation for the much needed bridge after a long time applying. A company called Dolphin was subsequently contracted to build it some months ago.
The owner of Dolphin, Jahidul Islam Ranju, denied the charge of any irregularity and said labourers didn’t do the shuttering properly and so the bridge collapsed. There was no irregularity behind it, he maintained.
