Suspected JMB man killed in ‘gunfight’

Kushtia: A suspected member of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Daulatdia upazila in Kushtia in the early hours of Friday.
The deceased is Araman Ali, in his forties, a resident of the village of Daulatput in Bheramara upazila.
Police said the gunfight took place at the intersection of three roads near Boalia field of the upazila at about 3:00am.
Four police members were also injured during the gunfight, claimed police. The injured are Daulatpur police sub-inspector (SI) Shariful, SI Shubrata, Constable Shajib and Nawshad. They received primary treatment.
The Daulatpur police Officer-in-charge (OC) Shah Dara said being tipped off a gang of miscreants took preparation to conduct violent act near Boalia field at about 3:00am, police went to the spot. Sensing the presence of police, the miscreants opened fire to them, police also fired back. At one stage, the miscreant drew back. Later, police recovered the bullet-hit Arman from the spot and took him to Daulatpur Upazila Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The law enforcers also claimed to recover a pistol, two bullets, a magazine, and three machetes from the spot.
The Daulatpur police sub-inspector (SI) Haran said Arman Ali was arrested from a suspected militant den in Bheramara on 1 July. He was accused in several cases including arms and explosives.
