20-Party to stage countrywide demo Sunday

The BNP-led 20-party alliance will stage mass processions across the country on Sunday to press for their various demands, including a fresh inclusive general election under a non-party administration.
Besides, the alliance is set to enforce a fresh and fifth consecutive spell of 72-hour nationwide hartal from 6am on Sunday alongside its ongoing countrywide indefinite transport blockade which remains in force for 53 consecutive days to realise their demands.
In a statement, BNP joint secretary general Salauddin Ahmed, on behalf of the alliance, announced the shutdown and mass-procession programmes on Friday.
The shutdown will begin at 6:00am on Sunday end at 6:00am on Wednesday if it is not extended further as the alliance did earlier for four times.
In a statement on Saturday, Salauddin, on behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, urged the country’s people and leaders and activists of the 20-party to observe their scheduled programmes peacefully.
The alliance leaders and activists will take out the mass processions in all district towns, upazila, thana and pourasava headquarters and at all wards of divisional cities across the country.
BNP sources said the party leaders and activists were directed to make the hartal tight one with increasing their presence on the streets as the government is claming that they have brought the situation almost under their control.
Meanwhile, miscreants torched eight vehicles and vandalised three others in Malibagh, Jatrabari and Gulshan areas of the city on Saturday evening, apparently to create panic among city dwellers a few hours before the enforcement of the shutdown programme.
The criminals set fire to four vehicles, including two of private television channel Desh TV, and vandalised three others in the city’s Malibagh area at about 6:40pm.
The criminals also torched three public vehicles in Jatrabari while another one in Gulshan areas almost at the same time.
