Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday sent an Eid greeting card to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia wishing her a happy Eid-ul-Azha.

A four-member Awami League delegation, led by its former Assistant Secretary Sikandar Ali, handed over the card to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi around 12:30 pm at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.

The three other delegation members are HM Mizanur Rahman Jony, Shafiqul Islam Babu and Munshi Fakhruddin Sultan.

BNP Assistant Office Secretary Belal Ahmed said they will also send an Eid greeting card to Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina either this (Wednesday) afternoon or on Thursday morning on behalf of their party chairperson.

The chiefs of the country’s two major political parties greet each other during two Eid festivals and Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, though they have long been avoiding personally meeting each other or exchanging pleasantries.

The two top leaders were last seen together on September 10, 2009 at an iftar party organised by the Armed Forces Division.

The holy Eid-ul-Azha, the 2nd largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on Saturday.

Khaleda Zia who went to London on July 15 for medical treatment is likely to return home after celebrating the Eid there with her family members.
